The objectives of the Transfemoral prosthetics -course is that after
the course students should know transfemoral amputation and the
requirements of the final stump. Students should know
transfemoral anatomy and physiology related to prosthetic
treatment. They have to understand the meaning of patient
assessment and prescription principles.
Students have to understand the biomechanics of transfemoral
amputee, the quadrilateral socket and management of casting
procedure. They have to know how to make cast rectification and
use transfemoral prosthetic components.
It is important students to know how to make socket test and
alignment procedures: bench, static and dynamic alignment. They
have to learn to analyze transfemoral gait deviations and to know
the possibilities correct them.
Finally it is important students to know how to make transfemoral
checkout procedure; understand common transfemoral socket
problems and find solution to them. It is also good to know the
alternative casting procedures and the principles of ischial-ramal
containment socket
