INTRODUCTION TO PROSTHETICS AND ORTHOTICS TRAINING COURSE
This manual gives a general introduction and orientation to the studies
of Prosthetics and Orthotics at JSPO. The Jakarta School of Prosthetics
and Orthotics (JSPO) will aim to be accredited by the International
Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) as a Category II School. As
such, JSPO will use the guidelines set forward by the ISPO in
developing the course structure.
The first chapter explains the basis for studies at JSPO, how to organize
and successfully implement P&O studies. The second chapter describes
the role of prosthetics and orthotics (P&O) in physical rehabilitation
and what are our duties are in this profession. The third and fourth
chapters explain the basics of human body parts and movements. An
understanding of human anatomy and physiology is essential to enable
prescription and fitting a suitable prostheses or orthoses.
The fifth chapter familiarizes the student with Prosthetic and Orthotic
terminology and devices. A short description of patient care follows in
the Chapter Six.
The seventh chapter describes how learning assessment is carried out
through various JSPO examinations. Chapter Eight gives a collection of
English terms in Prosthetics and Orthotics to assist student at the start
of the study of this profession which has links to many other cognate
disciplines.
Hopefully student will find this manual useful, given that it provides
the basic information in the beginning of your P&O studies. This
introduction gives an initial overall view of the studies. All topics will
be discussed later in more detailed during specific sessions.
