The History of Orthopaedics

About this book :
A history of orthopaedics dealing with the subject in its entirety from prehistory to the present day.;In this volume the author, himself an orthopaedic surgeon and historian, describes in detail the history of orthopaedic disease, that of orthopaedics as a scientific discipline (including the natural history of orthopaedic disorders and their management), and the evolution of orthopaedic surgery as such.;The book falls naturally into four parts. The first part covers the period from Stone Age man up to and including the Middle Ages and the second illustrates the evolution of orthopaedic thought over the subsequent centuries with accounts of a selected group of disorders. Part 3, on the 20th century, is largely concerned with the orthopaedic aspects of war and the final part is a very extensive review of the development of orthopaedics in different countries, to an extent not previously undertaken, including: the USA, Britain, Ireland, France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Scandinavia, Switzerland, South Africa, the Antipodes, International organizations and the Third World.
