The first part covers the period from Stone Age man up to and including the Middle Ages and the second illustrates the evolution of orthopaedic thought over the subsequent centuries with accounts of a selected group of disorders. Part 3, on the 20th century, is largely concerned with the orthopaedic aspects of war and the final part is a very extensive review of the development of orthopaedics in different countries, to an extent not previously undertaken, including: the USA, Britain, Ireland, France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Scandinavia, Switzerland, South Africa, the Antipodes, International organizations and the Third World.
